SHILLONG:

Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Tuesday said the department will soon review whether to resume the offline classes for schools in the Shillong agglomeration.

Rymbui also asserted the importance of vaccination to prepare students for classroom learning so that they are not made prisoners of the ongoing Covid situation in the state.

Speaking to reporters, the minister said that a notification issued by the department has already spelt out that online classes will continue at least for schools in the Shillong agglomeration in view of the prevailing situation in the state.

“The situation will be reviewed in a few days or weeks on whether we will resume the offline classes or not,” he added.

Rymbui, however, informed that offline classes from class I to XII in rural areas is allowed adding that the notification has also spelt out the roles of the district administration and governing body for dealing with the situation.

“Classroom education must return. We have lived with this Covid situation for the last two years. Children are empowered enough both psychologically and mentally to prepare to go to the classroom and learn what they are supposed to.” he asserted.
