Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong

SHILLONG:

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, on April 12, said that the government had pleaded the Meghalaya High Court to implement the roster prospectively, having filed three affidavits since the court ruling in 2022.

“The point is clear. We had pleaded already; we wanted to implement (the roster) prospectively. But the high court insisted on implementing the system from the inception of the policy,” Tynsong told reporters on Wednesday.

Maintaining that the government was only following the court order of 2022, the deputy chief minister said that since the high court has issued a new order, the government will hold a cabinet meeting once the chief minister returns to Shillong and convene an all-party meeting thereafter.

The court, on April 3, issued an order asking the executive or legislature to decide on the cut-off date for the implementation of the roster.
