Graffiti artist pays tribute to hit-and-run victim Marak

GUWAHATI:

A Guwahati-based graffiti artist, Neelim Mahanta known by his street name Mahant, has recreated the tragic night of October 2, 2021 when the city witnessed a hit-and-run incident.

Mahanta paid a fitting visual tribute to Joseph Marak by artistically portraying the incident at Supermarket Flyover in Dispur.

On that night, 29-year-old model, Rajkanya Baruah, mowed down nine workers while allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol at GS Road near Down Town Hospital.

Among the nine PWD labourers, 55-year-old Joseph Marak, who hails from Nagal in South Garo Hills district was severely

injured and shifted to Gauhati Medical College Hospital for treatment. He lost both of his legs and breathed his last on November 11 at the hospital.

“This is the story of Joseph Marak, it could be you, me or anyone may become the victim tomorrow. So please, drive safe. Your carelessness may hurt many who are innocent,” said Mahant, the founder of Living Art, who hoped that his graffiti will speak out loud the message he wants to deliver.
