Grand statue of Netaji to be installed at India Gate on January 23

According to sources, the dimension of the granite statue will be 28 feet long and six feet wide and will be placed under a canopy.

New Delhi:

Ahead of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s 125th birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on January 21, announced the installation of a grand granite statue of the iconic freedom fighter at India Gate as a gesture of India’s “indebtedness” to him.

“As the entire nation is marking Netaji’s 125th birth anniversary on January 23, this is the right time to share this news, our gesture of “indebtedness” to the Azad Hind Fauj founder (sic),” Modi tweeted.

Until the completion of the said statue, a hologram statue of his would be present in the same place.

According to sources, the dimension of the granite statue will be 28 feet long and six feet wide and will be placed under a canopy.

The move comes at a time when the opposition parties are alleging that the government intends to put out the flame at Amar Jawan Jyoti, India Gate, and merge it with the immortal flame at the National War Memorial.

Hitting back at the critics, officials said, “It is ironic that people who did not make a National War Memorial for seven decades are now making a hue and cry when a permanent and fitting tribute is being made to our martyrs.” (PTI)
