SHILLONG:
The state government is drafting the model guidelines for maintaining the sanctity of water bodies and the guidelines pertaining to license or permission being granted to construct near such water bodies.
This was informed before the Meghalaya High Court while hearing a PIL on the matter here on Tuesday.
The State also informed the Court that aquatic experts have also been inducted into the expert committee for the preservation of water bodies.
“Accordingly, at the request of the State, let the matter appear six weeks hence,” the Court said in its order.
It also said that the State assured the Court that no construction will be allowed to come up nor will construction work be continued or commenced near any of the water bodies, particularly the Umiam Lake before the matter is next taken up and the guidelines on both maintenance of water bodies and permission to make construction near such water bodies are finalised.
The next hearing will be held on May 24.
