Guv should respect sentiments of majority: KSU president

Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a KSU event in Shillong today, KSU President Lambokstar Marngar said the governor should have at least tried to learn the language of a place he is serving at, rather, “he comes here and speak his own language, to the disappointment of many.”

SHILLONG:

Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) President Lambokstar Marngar on March 20 felt that Governor Phagu Chauhan should have respected the sentiments of the people and deliver his address on the floor of the house on the first day of the budget session in a common language understood by the people of the state.

Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a KSU event in Shillong today, Marngar said the governor should have at least tried to learn the language of a place he is serving at, rather, “he comes here and speak his own language, to the disappointment of many.”

“As a union, we feel the governor should have respected the sentiments of the majority, our culture and our tradition because there are many who find it difficult to speak, let alone understand Hindi,” the KSU president said.

When asked whether this was an attempt of the government of India to impose Hindi on the people of the state, Marngar said, “I cannot say much about the intention or alleged hidden motive of the government but I can only speak about the present and pressing matter.”
