SHILLONG:

The Meghalaya High Court observed that there has been considerable progress in the repair and construction of the Agia Medhipara Phulbari Tura (AMPT) road and some stretches have been completed and even the petitioner acknowledged the same.

Hearing a PIL on March 15, the Division Bench stated that the petitioner apprehends that the contractor may be using pastel colours for blacktopping the stretch between 32 km and 41 km instead of heavy duty bitumen.

It is, however, submitted on behalf of the state that the PWD has kept a close watch and is monitoring the work particularly on such stretch.

It is also submitted on behalf of the state that the work-order has already been issued for the 67 to 100 km stretch and the time allowed for completion is 24 months.

“Thus, the rest of the work should be in place by the time the matter appears next,” the Court stated.

The matter is listed for hearing on April 26, 2023.
