GUWAHATI:
The Northeastern states are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall from May 19 to 22, said the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), on May 19.
As per the date from the department, the amount of rainfall recorded in the region in the last 24 hours till 8:30 am on May 19, was 70 mm.
“Moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal is likely to continue over the Northeast due to low-level southerly and south-westerly winds during May 19 to 21. Under the influence of the above system, widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely over the region and thunderstorm, lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over Meghalaya on May 19 and 21,” said, Sanjay O’Neil Shaw, deputy director-general (DDG) of Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), IMD, Borjhar.
Revealing further details, it said that Assam and Meghalaya will witness light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places.
Similarly, on May 21, the two states will witness light to moderate rainfall in most places with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning at isolated Places.
On May 22, both the states will witness light to moderate rainfall in most places with isolated heavy rainfall.
The IMD also predicted light to moderate rainfall at many places with isolated heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh from May 19 to 22.
Similarly, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura will also witness light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning at isolated Places from May 19 to 22.
