Acting on a tip-off, police in Assam’s Karbi Anglong seized 1.330 kg of heroin worth Rs 10 crore from two vehicles at Rangma Basti under Khatkhati police station, and arrested three persons, including a woman in connection with the seizure at around 4 pm on July 24.
“Based on specific information, a Naka was set up at Rengma Basti Tini Ali under Khatkhati police station. At about 4 pm, two vehicles coming from Manipur via Rengma Basti were intercepted at Khatkhati Check Post,” said John Das, SDPO, Bokajan.
“After thoroughly checking the vehicles, 99 boxes of heroin (50 boxes from the MUV bearing registration no NL 07CB 2827, and 49 boxes from an SUV bearing registration no NL07CA 5586 were seized. The total weight of the heroin is 1 kg 330 grams,” Das added.
The arrested persons have been identified as Pavei Saichama (25, driver the MUV), a resident of Saranamai Khaikho under Tadubi police station in Senapati district; Veio (42, driver of the SUV), a resident of Khaikho Paomata under Tadubi police station in Senapati district and Avi @ Angela (25) of New Minister Hill under Kohima police station in Nagaland.
In another incident on July 23, Guwahati city police arrested a Manipuri Police personnel and an Assam Rifles personnel for transporting Yaba tablets worth Rs 1 lakh from Koinadhara area of the city.
“Two persons- Thangkhogin Haokip and Letminching Haokip were arrested in connection with the seizure,” a police official said.
According to the police, A team from Basistha Police Station intercepted a SUV vehicle from bearing registration No MN01AK7218 at Koinadhora.
Thangkhogin (37) works for 35 Assam Rifles and posted at Ukhrul, while Letminching works for Manipur Police and is posted at Maphoudan Police under Imphal East Police District, the official informed.
