Heroin worth Rs 30 crore seized from Nagaland border, 1 arrested

“The consignment was concealed by making a secret chamber in the upper body of the vehicle. The secret chamber was welded properly to hide the consignment,” Bokajan SDPO John Das said.

GUWAHATI:

In its continued drive against the smuggling of the narcotic drug, Assam Police recovered 5 kg of heroin worth Rs 30 crore from a white Bolero vehicle at Khatkhati in Karbi Anglong district bordering Nagaland on March 12.

“The consignment was concealed by making a secret chamber in the upper body of the vehicle. The secret chamber was welded properly to hide the consignment,” Bokajan SDPO John Das said.

“Based on specific information on the movement of a vehicle carrying drugs, a Naka was set up at the National Highway in front of the SBI Khatkhati branch. Our team intercepted a white Bolero car bearing registration No AS 09 J 4746 coming from Dimapur at around 10 am,” Das said.

“During the search, we recovered 390 soap cases containing 5 kg of heroin from the secret chamber of the vehicle,” Das also said.

The police have arrested the driver of the vehicle identified as Md Fujel Ahmed (41) son of late Mufasil Ali in this connection. He hails from Islam Nagar in Assam’s Hojai district.

“The consignment was loaded in Dimapur and supposed to be delivered at Nagaon bypass,” he added.

The smuggling of narcotic drugs through this interstate border has been a routine affair. The police and other investigation agencies have made many recoveries and arrested many persons since June 2021, but there is no let-up of the situation.
