SHILLONG:

Mawsynram MLA Himalaya Shangpliang, on September 9, said that the government should punish those involved in the killing of former Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) leader Cheristerfield Thangkhiew.

Addressing a press conference, he said, “There is a criminal conspiracy in the whole operation. I want to see justice prevail and I demand that people involved should be punished.”

He questioned also why the police did not wait till morning to apprehend him or use night vision during the operation.

The government has not taken any action against those involved even though Justice Vaiphei has done his part in enquiring into the matter.

Shangpliang said, “This is now a public document. We have to follow up on this. The government has to name those who took part in the operation and punish as per law.”
