HIV cases rising in Tripura, says CM Manik Saha

Agartala, Mar 14: Tripura chief minister Manik Saha on Thursday stated that HIV/AIDS cases are rising alarmingly in the state.

Saha stated that 150 to 200 persons are being infected in a month by this infectious disease. He expressed deep concern over the rising use of intravenous drug injection or “IV drug use” among the students and youths.

He said that “all the clubs, societal organisations and groups must come forward to make the people, especially the youths, aware against the abuse of drugs and other evil acts.”

He recently came across a student at Belonia in South Tripura who fell victim to the menace of drugs. After five years, he has now stopped using the drugs and now he is recovering from his illness,” the Chief Minister stated.

Saha also urged all concerned including teachers, health officials and NGOs to identify the epicentre of the drug menaces, the root cause of the HIV/AIDS cases.

He further added that all the states in the northeast region and the country as a whole are on a mission to make Nasha Mukt Bharat.
