House Autumn session from Sept 9

SHILLONG:

The Autumn session of the tenth Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will be held from September 9 to September 16.

The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) met on Wednesday to decide on the calendar of the session. According to it, there will be six working days of which government business has been allotted for September 9, 13 and 16 while private members’ business for September 12, 14 and 15.

The BAC meeting was  chaired by the assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh.

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma also attended the meeting.

Mukul Sangma said the opposition will look at how to effectively utilise the time provided for the members of the House.

“So we hope that the autumn session will definitely be a productive one,” he said.

Asked on the issues to be raised by the opposition during the session, Sangma said there are too many issues and the opposition will be putting their heads together on how to prioritise these.

He said it was incumbent upon the members, particularly the opposition, to draw the attention of the government for course correction wherever called for and press for action on matters of public importance,” he said.

“Since there are too many issues, we will have to see how to effectively utilise the time and effective floor management but that will again depend on how the members would like to participate,” he said.
