SHILLONG:
The Border Security Force (BSF) and the Meghalaya Police in a joint operation recovered a cache of arms and ammunition buried underground in South West Khasi Hills district on Friday.
The cache, inside a yellow plastic bag, contained a 0.38 USA-make revolver, 410 live rounds and 35 Effective Full Charge (EFC), the BSF said, adding the area was thoroughly searched after the recovery using metal detectors but nothing else was found.
The BSF suspects the arms were meant for miscreants to carry out extortions and also insurgent activities.
An FIR has been lodged while the recovered cache has been handed over to Borsora police station. Further investigation in under way.
