NONGPOH:
The Byrnihat Police seized a huge quantity of explosives near 12 Mile area, Byrnihat in Ri Bhoi district, on February 16. Two persons have been arrested in connection with the seizure.
The seized explosives include 12 cartoon gelatin sticks and 24 packets of electric detonators, the police said.
According to Giri Prasad, Superintendent of police, Ri Bhoi, upon receiving credible intel about the transportation of bomb-making materials in the area, the police laid a check post in the National Highway.
A vehicle (AS 01 LC 1112) refused to stop at the check post and fled from the spot. A team of police personnel traced the car and intercepted it near the 12 Mile area and seized the explosives after conducting a search operation, he said.
“The accused have revealed that they were transporting the explosives to Rani from Meghalaya,” he said.
Police have registered an FIR and are interrogating the accused for more information on the explosives.
