SHILLONG:

Cabinet Minister Kyrmen Shylla has informed that once the 32 lakh metric tonnes of coal lying all over the East Jaintia Hills has been auctioned then only can facts be ascertained if illegal mining still goes on unchecked.

Speaking to reporters on December 8, Shylla said that the auction process has been delayed and the coal lies in government’s custody.

“Until and unless we complete the auction of 32 lakh metric tonnes of coal, it is difficult to say if illegal mining is going on,” he said.

He said any quantity of coal reported after the auctioning process will point towards illegal mining still persisting in EJH.
