Indian, Chinese army face-off at Tawang, several injured

GUWAHATI/TAWANG

Indian and Chinese troops clashed along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) at Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh on December 9 leading to injuries of several jawans on both sides, a Defence spokesperson said here on December 12.

“PLA troops contacted the LAC in Tawang Sector which was contested by our troops firmly and resolutely. This face-off led to minor injuries to a few personnel from both sides,” said Lt Col Amarendra Walia, spokesperson, 4 Corps, Tezpur.

“Both sides immediately disengaged from the area. As a follow-up of the incident, our Commander in the area held a flag meeting with his counterpart to discuss the issue under structured mechanisms to restore peace and tranquillity,” Walia said.

“In certain areas along the LAC in the Tawang Sector in Arunachal Pradesh are areas of differing perception, wherein both sides patrol the area up to their claim lines. This has been the trend since 2006,” Walia also said.

Meanwhile, another source informed here that more than 30 Indian soldiers suffered injuries during the face-off and six soldiers were brought to Guwahati for treatment.

This is not the first time the area in Arunachal Pradesh has seen a face-off between the Indian and Chinese troops. This has been the trend since 2006.

In October 2021, Indian and Chinese troops were engaged in a face-off in Tawang after scores of Chinese soldiers crossed over to the Indian side.

This is the first incident of its kind after the June 15, 2020, incident when 20 Indian soldiers were killed and several others were injured in violent clashes with the PLA troops in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley.
