Fire engulfed a shop owned by one Vijay Kr Saha in Them Marwet, Khanapara, located in the Ri-Bhoi district in the late night of May 26. The blaze ravaged the entire stock of food items within the shop, resulting in significant losses.
No casualties were reported, but the shop was completely damaged, estimated at around Rs 4 lakh. Preliminary investigations point to a short circuit as the probable cause of the fire.
Upon receiving the distress call, the Khanapara police sprang into action, swiftly rushing to the scene. They collaborated with fire service teams from Byrnihat and Assam to combat the inferno. Their coordinated efforts were instrumental in rapidly dousing the flames and containing the fire’s reach, thereby preventing it from spreading to neighbouring establishments.
