Inquiry Commission probing Mukroh incident examines witness

Justice (retd) Vaiphei informed that the counsels for the governments of Meghalaya, Assam, and Mukroh villagers examined a witness produced by the state.

SHILLONG:

The Justice (retd.) T. Vaiphei-led judicial inquiry commission probing the Mukroh firing incident on November 22 last year examined a witness on April 28.

Justice (retd) Vaiphei informed that the counsels for the governments of Meghalaya, Assam, and Mukroh villagers examined a witness produced by the state.

He informed that another witness, which the Meghalaya government could not produce on Friday, will be produced on Saturday.

“I will examine him tomorrow, and then the next proceedings will be held on May 5 and 6. Any witnesses produced by the Meghalaya government, I will examine them,” Justice (retd) Vaiphei said.

He also informed that once he finishes examining Meghalaya’s witnesses, he will start probing Assam’s witnesses.

Justice (ret.) Vaiphei also informed that his term was extended for another three months, which will end in June, and he hopes to complete the probe by then.

“But if at all I cannot complete it, I think the government will have to extend my term,” he said.
