International day against drug abuse observed in NGH

The programme was organised to sensitise students on the major problem of illicit drug abuse.

The department of District Social Welfare Officer, North Garo Hills observed the International day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking at Ramke Memorial Secondary School, Mendipathar on Wednesday.

The programme was organised to sensitise students on the major problem of illicit drug abuse.

Speaking during the occasion as chief guest, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jude Rangku T Sangma said youngsters who are addicted to illicit use of drugs end up spoiling their lives.

He urged the students to abstain from drug abuse and focus on developing their personal growth by paying attention to studies and choosing good friends circle.

Sangma also noted that the aim of the programme was to achieve a drug – free society which was in accordance with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of building a drug – free nation.

Earlier, an awareness rally to spread the message on ill effects of drugs abuse and illicit trafficking also took place in the district.

Other speakers who enlightened students on legal consequences and ill effects of drugs abuse were Dr NR Marak, Senior Doctor & health officer and V N Sangma, DySP (crime) Resubelpara PS.
