NONGPOH:
Following complaints of factory pollution from local residents, Jirang legislator Sosthenes Sohtun inspected two factories – Pawan Ispat and CMJ Breweries – in Byrnihat on February 15.
Assuring that such inspections will be the norm moving forth, Sohtun urged the factories to adopt scientific methods to ensure minimal pollution in the area.
Stating that theirs is not the only factory in the area, the owner of CMJ Breweries, Rohit Jain appealed to the public to stop targeting them.
“There are many factories in the area, so why just target us? We have provided employment opportunities to locals in the area. In fact, about 70 per cent of our employees are women,” he said.
Sohtun was accompanied by a member of the district council (MDC) Victor Rani, ADC R Kharbihkhiew, a senior environmental engineer from pollution control board W Kharkrang, and the leaders of synjuk ki rangbah shnong of Byrnihat.
