SHILLONG:
Former Sohra legislator and current Member of District Council (MDC) Titosstarwell Chyne has said that during 2018 and before that too he had urged the state government to rescue the Mawmluh Cherra Cements Limited (MCCL).
“Maybe those days we would have not liked to think about a joint venture (proposal) since the time was still right for the government to rescue it,” the Sohra MDC said.
He, however, said that turning to the present situation it looks like that joint venture or privatisation will probably not be able to bail the MCCL out.
“I see that from the government side it does not seem interested to go for joint venture,” Chyne said even as he added that he will not totally oppose a move for either joint venture or privatisation of the MCCL.
“All I want is that the MCCL which has been there for many years since the Assam government days is for it to survive. That is all I want,” he said.
However, he said that he understands there are many problems associated with the MCCL now since the agreement for mining too has been discontinued.
The Sohra MDC said that if the government is going to revive it many problems will crop up.
Chyne said that what saddens him most is that the MCCL was not rescued at the right time.
He also said that those who are in power now should take up the revival of the MCCL.
