KAAC tax gate issue ignites fresh protest

Speaking to media persons after the meeting with West Jaintia Hills deputy commissioner, Khanduli headman, Yooshida Nongrum, informed that they have decided to suspend their agitation for a week as the deputy commissioner had assured them to take up the matter sincerely.

Residents of Khanduli and nearby villages accompanied by village elders and members of the Jaintia Student Movement protested against the government for failing to remove the tax gate of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting with West Jaintia Hills deputy commissioner, Khanduli headman, Yooshida Nongrum, informed that they have decided to suspend their agitation for a week as the deputy commissioner had assured them to take up the matter sincerely.

The protesters also tried to meet the JHADC chief executive member but failed to do so as he was not in his chamber.

A public meeting was also held at the entrance of JHADC office where the protesters lashed out against the district administration, the district council and the state government for failing to resolve the issue.
