SHILLONG:
A day after the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) decided against the deduction of weights on agricultural produces at local markets located under its jurisdiction, officials of the Council paid a visit to Iewduh – Meghalaya largest traditional market on May 11 morning.
Accompanied by members from the Hima Mylliem, under which the Iewduh falls, KHADC officials strolled through the tiny lanes of Iewduh, to meet and interact with vegetable traders and local farmers, informing them about the latest order, directing them not to resort to weight deduction any longer but to weigh the produce as a whole, in a sack or basket.
Speaking to media persons, Executive Member of KHADC Grace Mary Kharpuri, who is also incharge of Market department, said that the Hima Mylliem has issued an order since 2019 prohibiting the deduction of weight on agricultural produce and urged farmers and traders to work together to prevent any revenue loss on both sides.
