The Hynniewtrep National Youth Movement (HNYM), on January 25, accused the Members of the District Council (MDCs) of Khasi Hill Autonomous District Council (KHADC) of using the Hima Mylliem as an “ATM”.
HNYM president Louis Dohtdong alleged that the MDCs are misusing their position and using the revenue derived from various sources for their personal benefit.
“If they need money, they will draw from the Hima Mylliem. Therefore this Syiemship till date has not convened the Dorbar Hima to give accounts of its revenue or expenditure,” Dohtdong alleged.
The HNYM chief also said that the Hima Mylliem does not have a budget for running the Syiemship.
He also said that he once asked the authorities of the Hima Mylliem, why the word “auditors” is missing from the Mylliem Syiemship Act, 2007, and their reply was that the Council used to hire chartered accountants to do their financial statement.
“Without a budgetary provision for the Hima Mylliem how can you give your financial statements to a chartered accountant. The people need to know how much revenue this Syiemship earns,” Dohtdong said.
