DIPHU:

A peace meeting between the Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) and the Jaintia Students’ Movement (JSM) was convened on August 30 in Diphu, Karbi Anglong District, Assam. During this significant event, both organisations collectively decided to establish a peace committee known as the ‘Students’ Committee For Peace Initiative.’

This pivotal gathering marks a promising stride towards achieving harmonious resolutions for the communities inhabiting the border regions of West Karbi Anglong, Assam, and the border regions of West Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya.

At this constructive meeting, the representatives of both student bodies mutually pledged to collaborate closely in seeking solutions to various issues such as differences, misunderstandings, minor conflicts, and other matters that have led to tensions and divisions between the Pnar and Karbis populations residing along the border areas.

Representing the Jaintia Students’ Movement were key figures including Leningstar Rymbai, the President of the Central Body; Roitre Dkhar, serving as the General Secretary; and Ribok Biam, the President of the Western Region. On the other side, the delegation from the Karbi Students’ Association was led by CEC President, Mirjeng Kro, along with other notable KSA leaders.
