NONGPOH:

The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Regional Institute of Science and Technology-University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (RIST-USTM) unit on November 23 held a candlelight vigil and put-up black flags to show their support and grievances for the victims of the Mukroh shooting in West Jaintia Hills.

Led by their president Calvin Thongni, the group held the candlelight vigil for the five civilians, who were killed in the firing by Assam Police on November 22, at the entrance of USTM.

Speaking on the occasion, Thongni slammed the Assam Police for the senseless act, and also accused the state government of treating civilians in the border areas as sacrificial lambs. He also lambasted the government for not resolving the border issues at a faster pace.

The students of the university, along with villagers from Killing and Baridua, and KSU northern border area, were present at the vigil.
