Lafarge Umiam Mining Private Limited (LUMPL) was adjudicated as “Overall First” by the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) for being the safest Opencast mines in the North-East Region.
LUMPL was bestowed the award in the recently concluded 18th North East Metalliferous Mines Safety Week for the period 2020-21 held in Guwahati on September 19, 2022 under the aegis of DGMS, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India.
The award was handed over to LUMPL in the presence of Ujjwal Tah, Deputy Director General of DGMS, Eastern Zone, who was the chief guest of the event and Yohan Yejerla, Director of Mines Safety, DGMS, Guwahati Region who was the convener of the event. The award was handed over to LUMPL after due diligence by a Committee under the vigilance of DGMS, Guwahati Region.
Altogether 13 mines from North-Eastern Region of India participated in the Mines Safety Week 2020-21, which was held from February 14 to February 20, 2022 for efforts and initiatives taken on safety in opencast mining.
