Manipur Landslide Tragedy: 31 bodies recovered, 33 still missing

As many as 31 bodies have been recovered, on July 3, while around 33 are still feared missing. Out of 31 bodies, as many as 12 were retrieved on July 2.

As per sources, Major General Navin Sachdeva said the army is committed to continuing the search operation at the Tupul Railway Construction site till the last mortal remains are retrieved. On the other hand, the mortal remains of Naik Tshering Lepcha were taken to Roklu Kayem, his native village in Upper Dzongu in North Sikkim. Hundreds gathered to pay their last respects to the brave heart.

The mortal remains of Late Nk. Tshering Lepcha of Dzongu in Sikkim was brought to Bagdogra and taken to his native village with full military honours.

Lieutenant Lepcha was among the 11 Gorkha army men who lost their lives in the landslide tragedy in Manipur’s Noney district. Earlier in the day, Darjeeling MP and BJP National Spokesperson, Raju Bista visited the Army Hospital in Mantripukhri and the Leimakhong Military Hospital to meet the Gorkha Rifle Jawans, rescued from the Tupul landslide site.

Notably, inclement weather had come as a major roadblock in the ongoing search and rescue operations on Day 4. As per inputs, earlier in the morning, incessant rains delayed the search operations.
