MCS promotion on hold till case settled

SHILLONG:

The state government has kept in abeyance the promotion of three MCS officers after a contempt of court notice was filed by another group of officers as a case is pending in the single bench of the Meghalaya High Court.

C.V.D. Diengdoh, Secretary to Personnel and A.R.(A) Department said that the government has kept the promotions in abeyance till the matter is decided by the High Court.

Diengdoh said that the government was not aware of the pending case when it promoted the three officers to the posts of Additional Deputy Commissioners.

“It is a simple case of contempt notice which was filed against the government and we had to take some action because the court had not finally decided,” Diengdoh added.

The state government on January 28 kept the promotion of three MCS officers in abeyance.

In a notification, the state government stated that this was done in pursuance to the judgment and order of the Division Bench of the Meghalaya High Court of May 13, 2019. In 2019 the Division bench of the Meghalaya High Court had asked the single bench to revisit the case and until the case is disposed of status quo should be maintained.
