Meghalaya emerges victorious at Khelo India Youth Games 2023

CHENNAI:

Meghalaya secured victory in the Khelo India Youth Games 2023 football finals held in Chennai on January 31, defeating Punjab 2-0. The team’s triumph marked the end of an impressive journey, maintaining an undefeated streak from the group stage to the title-deciding match.

In the finals against Punjab, Badondor Marbaniang’s two goals played a crucial role in securing the championship for Meghalaya. Captain Colinsalmon Lyngdoh’s leadership was instrumental in the team’s success throughout the tournament.

During the group stage, Meghalaya topped Group A, which included strong opponents like Punjab, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh, progressing to the semifinals. In the league matches, Meghalaya showcased prowess with a 4-1 victory over Uttar Pradesh, a hard-fought 2-1 win against Punjab, and another 2-1 victory against Tamil Nadu.

The semifinal clash against Jharkhand ended in a thrilling 5-3 victory for Meghalaya, with Mebanlamlynti Marsharing’s outstanding hat-trick securing his position as the team’s top scorer with 7 goals in the tournament.
