SHILLONG:

The Meghalaya Police, East Khasi Hills district in collaboration with the Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) on June 23 conducted an awareness programme on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in the university campus.

The programme was attended by students and faculty of the different departments of the university.

Swapnil Pawar IPS Officer, East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya while giving his presentation on drug abuse and illicit trafficking, spoke about the rampant rise of drugs availability and drug use in the state.

Pawar stressed on the fact that the youth are the most vulnerable and susceptible to be coerced into drug use and hence it would make sense that the students of the university will be able to learn about this and make changes that would help their fellow youth.

“Drug use and illicit trafficking has led to an increase in other crimes in the state,” said Pawar while encouraging everyone to use the MEG- CopWatch- Women safety app to report any crime against women and children.

The MLCU students also interacted with Pawar during the question hour where students tried to clear doubts and problems they might face in their day to day encounter with drug abusers and on how to handle them.
