Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma

SHILLONG:

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, on March 20, informed that the Centre has sanctioned an additional amount of around Rs 300 crore to Meghalaya from the Capital Investment Fund (CIF) as a result of the state’s capability to fully utilise the allocated funds under CIF for 2022-23.

“Meghalaya is one of the few states in the country to utilise the funds in an efficient manner. Because of this, we received additional funds, which is 50 per cent of the total amount sanctioned to us – we received Rs 600 crore in the beginning and another Rs 300 crore has been sanctioned to us,” CM Conrad Sangma told reporters in Shillong today.

When asked about his meetings with several union ministers in Delhi recently, the chief minister said his visits were more of a public relation exercise after being sworn-in as the chief minister for the second term.

“I felt it appropriate to meet the union ministers; it is more a courtesy visit seeking continuous support from the leaders; yes, some issues were taken up – whether education or capital investment, and we got positive responses from the ministers. It was not an issue-related trip but a generic one,” Sangma explained.
