The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, has honoured Meghalaya’s Kongthong also known as ‘Whistling Village’ with the prestigious Bronze award for the Best Tourism Village in 2023.
This recognition is attributed to their exceptional ‘Jingrwai Iawbei,’ a melodious whistling tune traditionally passed down from mothers to their children.
Notably, Kongthong village, popularly known for its scenic beauty, has become a major tourist attraction in East Hills district.
