Mukroh Shooting: CM to lead delegation to meet Amit Shah on Nov 24

The CM informed that during their visit to Delhi, the delegation will meet the National Human Rights Commission and will be submitting its report to the commission.

A delegation of the Meghalaya government led by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma will be meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the shooting incident by Assam Police in Mukroh village, West Jaintia Hills district.

“We will be officially informing him of the firing incident that took place in Mukroh village and we will be demanding that an investigation be made by the central agency, the National Investigation Agency or the Central Bureau of Investigation,” the CM told reporters after the cabinet meeting.

He also informed that during their visit to Delhi, the delegation will meet the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and will be submitting its report to the commission.

The Chief Minister also informed that the cabinet has also decided that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) will be constituted into this case as FIR has already been filed and the Deputy Inspector General, Eastern Range will be heading it.

Sangma said that while, the state government is waiting that a central agency take over the investigation, in the meantime the SIT will start conducting a probe into the matter.

“As and when the government of India approves an investigation by a central agency, the investigation by the SIT will be handed over to them,” the Chief Minister said.

The cabinet informed that a Judicial Commission will be constituted to look into all the aspects of this incident.

On Wednesday, the Chief Minister, the Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Public Health Engineering (PHE) Minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar and Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, Kyrmen Shylla will be visiting Mukroh and meet the families of the deceased persons and hand over the ex-gratia payment to them.

Sangma also informed that he again spoke to Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma and expressed his concern over the incident.

He urged the Assam Chief Minister to take immediate action against the officials who are involved for what happened.

Sarma informed the Meghalaya Chief Minister that the officer in-charge of the Police Station has been suspended, the Forest Range Protection Officer has been suspended, the Superintendent of Police of West Karbi Anglong district has been transferred.

Sangma also said that the Assam government will be taking necessary steps to investigate into the matter in consultation with Meghalaya government and it has also assured that whatever demands and requests made to the centre the former will cooperate to ensure justice is done and the guilty are punished.

Sangma also informed that all official government programmes including laying of foundation stones or inaugurating of any programmes will be suspended till November 30 as a mark of respect to the departed souls.

Even festivals organised by the government of Meghalaya will be cancelled and none will take place.
