Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma on Friday dubbed Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma as a puppet in the hands of the BJP as he was appointed by the party’s leaders to head the state.
“The NPP-led MDA government has been formed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Conrad Sangma is merely a puppet appointed by Delhi,” Mukul said while addressing a meeting to form the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) block committee in Mawshynrut, West Khasi Hills district.
He said that in 2018, BJP members came and appointed Conrad Sangma as the chief minister so he acts as their puppet adding that Shah had visited the state and pursued the chief minister for the border deal, and within a month the MoU was signed with Assam.
“Now, NPP is saying it will scrap the alliance with BJP and contest alone in the 2023 elections. These divisive forces from outside came in and formed an unholy alliance. They promised something before the elections, but did they keep their promises? This shows that this is a govt that cannot be trusted by the people of the state. Meghalaya and all it’s people will vote for change in the coming year,” he said
He said people of the state must work together to safeguard their interests adding the “proxy-BJP government” is inefficient in preserving the uniqueness of the people’s identity. “They are wasting all our resources. I want to ask, why the sitting MLA hasn’t brought any formidable change in the constituency during his tenure? It’s not too long before the people will give them a befitting reply,” he said
He said that the HSPDP, UDP, KHNAM also claimed that they would not stand by the BJP government but they all changed their stance. “This is merely a repetition of their trickery,” he added.
