The casual employees under the umbrella of North Eastern Hill University Workers Union (NEHUWU) on Thursday staged a protest inside the university campus over low wages and deprivation of facilities.

“These employees of the NEHU do not get Employees’ State Insurance or Employees Provident Fund,” Napoleon S. Mawphniang said.

Mawphnaing informed that on April 29 they submitted their list of demands to the University Vice-Chancellor Prof P S Shukla and set a month’s deadline to fulfill them.

He said that the protest held at the NEHU campus on Thursday was to remind the Vice-Chancellor of their demands.

Mawphniang said that one of their demands is to regularise the jobs of the employees.

He said that some of them have been working in the university but their posts have not been regularised even as he added that jobs of some some of those who have the means to go to the court have been regularised.
