New garbage disposal plan for WGH

DC urges residents to implement Reduce, Re-use and Re-cycle

Tura:

Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, Swapnil Tembe, has informed that with regard to the issue of garbage disposal in urban area, the office of the DC is preparing an action plan and to implement this plan successfully and make the district garbage free, coordination and support from all residents is sought.

The deputy commissioner has requested all the households to segregate waste at household level and kitchen waste (wet waste) to make compost which will ensure that the locality dustbins are free from foul smell.

Tembe also encouraged all households to implement the three R’s (Reduce, Re-use and Re-cycle) principle with regard to household items which will significantly reduce garbage loads on Tura Municipal Board.

He has suggested everyone to carry cloth bags or any other reusable bag while going to market so that the shopkeepers do not have to use polythene or single use plastic bags.

The deputy commissioner also encouraged all households to use locally available products which come in eco-friendly packaging and will also promote our local entrepreneurs. It was also informed in the notice that door-to-door collection of garbage through the Municipal staff will be initiated soon for which nominal monthly user charges will be charged.
