NFR proposes Vistadome service between Mendipathar and Guwahati

GUWAHATI:

Proposal has been mooted for another Vistadome service from Mendipathar in Meghalaya to Guwahati in Assam to attract tourists, officials of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) disclosed it before the state officials of Meghalaya government recently.

The proposal was made during a meeting between NF Railway officials and Meghalaya government officials on February 28, wherein beautification of Nolbari railway station was also discussed.

“Proposal has been mooted. It can be introduced only after the Railway Board approves it,” said an NF Railway spokesperson.

If the project gets a green signal, Guwahati-Mendipathar vistadome service will be the third such service operated by NFR in the region, the other two being Guwahati Haflong and Tinsukia-Naharlagun that became operational in 2021.

Informing that the NF Railway is making all-out efforts to remove the transport bottlenecks for improving business and economic condition of farmers and provide better facilities to its customers in the region, the NFR officials highlighted various initiatives undertaken to improve the rail travel experience.

Among other things, the meeting also discussed setting up of stalls to promote handloom products, catering units, multi-purpose stalls, and parking facilities.

New initiatives implemented by the railways to make transportation convenient for the passengers such as Yatri Ticket Suvidha Kendra (YTSK)Kisan Rail, and various subsidy related travel schemes were also discussed during the meeting.

The meeting was attended by North Garo Hills deputy commissioner RP Marak and senior divisional commercial manager of Rangiya Railway Division Ashok Kumar Dey, along with other officials.
