To create awareness about substance abuse, crime against women and children and other social evils in the society, the voice of the people of West Khasi Hills (Ka Sur ki Nongwest) organised a peace rally at Nongstoin, on May 17.

The rally, whhich started from Ladweitang and culminated at the market complex in new Nongstoin, saw villagers, students, and different NGOs from the district took to the streets carrying placards and shouting slogans ‘Say No to Drugs’ in an effort to stop curb such activities.

Raising concerns about the menace of drugs in the district, the leaders of the different NGOs demanded the state government to implement the drugs policy so that the increasing use of drugs among the youths can be stopped.

“It is high time for the state government to implement a drugs policy and to empower the Dorbar Shnong, NGOs, etc., to apprehend the drugs dealers and traffickers,” said Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) general secretary, Wanteibok Lyngdok.
