NIA conducts multiple searches in 16 locations of Assam

The raid was conducted based on a suo-motu case registered by NIA in connection with a fresh recruitment drive of the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I).

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted multiple raids in 16 locations in seven Assam districts on September 2.

The raid was conducted based on a suo-motu case registered by NIA in connection with a fresh recruitment drive of the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I).

“NIA conducted searches at 16 locations in seven districts of Assam including Kamrup, Nalbari, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Sadiya, Charaideo and Sibasagar in RC-23/2022/NIA/DLI on the activities of ULFA (a proscribed terrorist organisation) including recruitment of youth in ULFA, extortion of money for strengthening ULFA and radicalization of youth for unlawful activities and their training at camps based across the Indo – Myanmar border in Myanmar,” an official statement of NIA said on September 3.

“This case was registered suo-motu by NIA vide RC-23/2022/NIA/DLI on May 18, 2022. During the searches, digital devices, live ammunition along with incriminating documents and literature related to ULFA were seized,” the statement read.

As per sources, raids were also conducted at the house of ULFA-I publicity wing member Aicheng Asom, and also at Chabua and Tinhkhong.

The statement further stated that investigation into the case is in progress.
