‘Nongstoin- Sohpian road not as per DPR’

General Secretary of the FKJGP, Wilis Syiem, said that according to the DPR the maximum average width in meters is 7.35 and the minimum is 3.75.

NONGSTOIN:

The Federation of Khasi Jaintia & Garo People (FKJGP) along with the Khasi Students Union (KSU), West Khasi Hills district, on Saturday inspected the construction work of the 7-km Nongstoin-Sohpian road.

During the inspection, the organisations found that the width of the road is less than what is mentioned in the detailed project report (DPR) while the blacktopping is almost complete.

They informed that the inspection was carried out after receiving several complaints that the road was not expanding as expected.

General Secretary of the FKJGP, Wilis Syiem, said that according to the DPR the maximum average width in meters is 7.35 and the minimum is 3.75.

However, the measurement showed that the width of the road is a foot less than the average stipulated in the DPR.

“The road is very narrow and it is very difficult for two vehicles to pass at the same time,” he said

Meanwhile, Franklin Syiemiong, General Secretary of KSU, said that the road should be constructed in the same way as the Nongstoin-Urkali road.

“Both are important roads for the people of Nongstoin as these connect Nongstoin town to the National Highway 44E,” he added.

Therefore, the FKJGP and KSU have demanded that the department take the matter seriously.
