Not jumping ship ahead of polls: Himalaya Shangpliang

Shangpliang also said that he couldn’t attend the meeting of AITC national general secretary because his aunt had passed away

Putting all speculations of him jumping the ship to another political party to rest, opposition All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) leader Himalaya Shangpliang, on July 6, said that he has no plans of joining any other party in the run-up to the 2023 polls.

“I am still AITC MLA,” said the legislator from Mawsynram.

Shangpliang further cleared the air on speculations doing the rounds that he didn’t attend the recent meeting of the party workers which was also attended by AITC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, Shangpliang said that he couldn’t attend the do because his aunt had passed away. “And I have informed the party leaders about it,” he said.

Interestingly, besides Shangpliang, three more AITC legislators – Shitlang Pale, Marthon D Sangma and Jimmy D Sangma – had given the meeting a miss fanning much speculation that they will be quitting the Mamata Banerjee-led party before the 2023 polls.
