Om Birla sees Meghalaya as one of the most developed states in India

Congratulating members of the tribal groups and all citizens of the state on Statehood Day, his message focused on inclusivity and citizen-centric governance.

SHILLONG:

Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla, on January 21, said that Meghalaya, in the next 25 years, has the potential to become one of the most developed states in the country.

“Meghalaya would be one of the most developed regions in India when the country will celebrate 100 years of independence,” he said in a recorded message to the people of the state on Meghalaya’s 50th Statehood Day.

Congratulating members of the tribal groups and all citizens of the state on Statehood Day, his message focused on inclusivity and citizen-centric governance.

“One cannot forget the long democratic experience and exemplary contributions of its leaders, particularly the former Lok Sabha speaker, (L) Purno Sangma. They will be remembered as the state progresses ahead on its development path,” he said.

Underlining that the ‘Golden Jubilee’ year will be significant for the state as it coincides with Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, Birla said that the Centre is formulating a comprehensive action plan to develop infrastructure and tourism in the state.

“Dedicated efforts have been made in the past several years to develop infrastructure in Meghalaya. It has been a collective effort to strengthen tourism in the Northeastern state. Meghalaya, owing to its beauty, bio-diversity and rich culture, has always been a centre of attraction for tourists,” he said. (PTI)
