NONGPOH:
One person was killed, and another critically injured after a truck loaded with silicon boulders fell into a gorge along the Shillong-Guwahati highway at Umling under Ri Bhoi district, on May 5.
According to reports the accident happened at around 10:30 pm when a speeding truck bearing registration number WB23 E5691 hit a metal beam crash barrier and fell into a deep gorge.
The two persons were recovered in critical condition and immediately shifted to Civil Hospital, Nongpoh, for medical treatment but one occupant named Sonatan Kormokai succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the truck identified as Tapash Roy (26) has been critically injured and is undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile police are investigating the matter.
