Opium worth Rs 1 cr seized from Nagaland border

Despite continued drive by the police, smugglers adopt new techniques to traffick drugs to Assam and other parts of the country through this border point.

GUWAHATI:

In its crusade against drugs and narcotics substances, police in Karbi Anglong seized 18 kg of opium worth Rs 1 crore from a truck at Dillai along the Assam-Nagaland border on November 29 morning.

“A police team accompanied by 20 Bn CRPF personnel intercepted a truck bearing registration No AS01GC5478 at Dillai Tinali at around 7 am today. During the search, 19 packets of opium weighing 18 kg were recovered from the air filter of the truck,” said John Das, SDPO, Bokojan.

“The value of the recovered opium will be Rs 1 crore in the black market,” Das said.

Two persons have been arrested in this connection with the seizure. They are Ajya Basnet (45) son of Gokul Basnet of Tori Bari under Senapati PS and Deomon Limbu (25) son of Sukbir Limbu of Tori Bari under Senapati district of Manipur.

“The consignment was brought from Manipur and was supposed to be delivered in Guwahati,” Das said.
