Over 12k register for AITC’s Meghalaya Youth Empowerment scheme

The scheme, which was launched on January 5, promises 3 lakh jobs in the next five years with a monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,000 for the unemployed youths of the state.

SHILLONG:

The Meghalaya Youth Empowerment (MYE) scheme of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) has received an overwhelming response, with over 12,000 people registering for it so far.

The scheme, which was launched on January 5, promises 3 lakh jobs in the next five years with a monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,000 for the unemployed youths of the state.

“OUTSTANDING RESPONSE! In less than 48 hours of its launch, more than 10,000+ YOUTH have registered for #TMCMYECard. We promise to keep striving for the WELFARE OF YOUTH,” the party said in a tweet on January 8.

“While MDA Govt neglected the YOUTH, we shall UPLIFT them! Our #MYECard assures – Creation of 3 Lakh jobs over the next 5 years and Allowance of Rs 1,000 monthly (Rs 12,000 yearly) to unemployed youth between the ages of 21-40 years,” the party tweeted.

The MYE scheme is for unemployed youths between the ages 21 to 40 years and who are natives of Meghalaya. All they have to do is register for it, and they will be provided with a unique ID-enabled MYE Card which will serve as an assured guarantee for the scheme. They can also register online through www.tmcmyecard.com and receive a digital version of their MYE card.

While launching the campaign on Thursday, the party emphasised on the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government’s failure to create job opportunities or generate employment which had caused 37 per cent of the youth to be excluded from the active worker population of the state. This directly impacts families as Meghalaya has the highest dependency ratio (65.9) in the country.
