SHILLONG:
Lok Sabha MP from Shillong Vincent H Pala has apprised Union Minister Nitin Gadkari over the deteriorating condition of National Highway 6 that connects Shillong, Meghalaya, with Silchar, Mizoram, and Tripura.
In a letter that was also undesigned by MPs from Assam, Mizoram, and Tripura, the union minister was informed that the dilapidated condition of the highway has caused immense inconvenience to the people, posing a significant threat to their safety.
In light of these pressing issues, the MPs urged the centre to repair the road immediately and bring it to a safe and serviceable condition. This includes filling potholes, repairing damaged sections, and ensuring proper road markings and signage for the safety of commuters.
Through the letter, the MPs pointed exponential growth in traffic at the Highway, and propose the widening of NH 6 to six lanes to accommodate the increasing volume of vehicles and ensure smooth traffic flow. This expansion will help in facilitating economic growth and connectivity in the region.
