PDF’s meeting on merging with NPP ends in stalemate

When asked about the merger with the NPP, PDF working president Banteidor Lyngdoh questioned, “Who said that? There’s nothing like that. How can you say that when the PDF flag is still flying high here, everything that we do, we do it with a mutual understanding with everyone. But wait, you will get the information at the right time.”

SHILLONG:

The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDF) which met on Tuesday to decide on the party’s merger with the National People’s Party (NPP) ended in a stalemate after a section of the members objected to the move.

Among other CEC members of the PDF also present were the two legislators of the party – Gavin Miguel Mylliem (president) and Banteidor Lyngdoh (working president).

It may be mentioned that the NPP had expressed their eagerness that the two MLAs join the party before the May 10 Sohiong poll.

Emerging after the meeting which was held at the party office in Barik, the PDF working president said that the party will give good news in the days to come.

When asked about the merger with the NPP, Lyngdoh questioned, “Who said that? There’s nothing like that. How can you say that when the PDF flag is still flying high here, everything that we do, we do it with a mutual understanding with everyone. But wait, you will get the information at the right time.”

When asked if they are in touch and in talks with the NPP, he said, “Yes, we do that every day, you will get good news in the days to come.”

Meanwhile, a member of the CEC of the party who was not satisfied with the decision of the leaders to join the NPP decided to quit it before the PDF merges.

The vice president of the PDF Nongkrem constituency zonal committee, Ïalamlin Lyngdoh said that he is quitting the party for personal reasons.

“The party is no longer how we envisioned it. For that reason I resigned since I feel that I should no longer associate myself with the party,” Lyngdoh said.

He also said that due to the political confusion created by the two PDF legislators, the other members of the party have lost faith in them.

During an election rally in Krang, under Sohiong constituency on Monday, NPP national president Conrad Sangma said that senior leaders of other parties will merge with the party on May 6.
