SHILLONG:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address citizens at Khyndai Lad on February 24 to drum up support for the 60 candidates of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the crucial Assembly elections, to be held on February 27.
This will be Modi’s first roadshow in the state.
Ernest Mawrie, State President of BJP, in a statement made on Wednesday, said, “I request the public in general to come and attend the roadshow at Police Bazar on February 24”.
According to Mawrie, Modi will first land at the Upper Shillong helipad, and from there, move to Jhalupara point, and then to the State Central Library, where he is expected to pay a floral tribute to U Tirot Sing, U Kiang Nangbah and Patogan Sangma, the freedom fighters who led a rebellion against the British to secure the different regions of the hills.
An address to the public will follow at Khyndai Lad. The full programme is scheduled to be held from 11.00 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. in respect of school timings.
